Sheila Hicks: Begin With Thread

At Recreo San Miguel, we honor artists who, like us, depend on “the thread” as the basis of all that we do. Sheila Hicks is an artist best known for her remarkable textiles and tapestry installations. In 1967, she created two highly-celebrated tapestries on commission for the Ford Foundation’s auditorium and boardroom. Though the originals were lost to time and poor conservation, she recently re-created them at her atelier in Paris and oversaw their installation at the Ford Foundation headquarters in New York...nearly 50 years after the originals were created.
